The Vietnam War and Hollywood Movies
"Vietnam was the longest war in American history." It lasted more than ten years and killed hundreds of lives. The media was a big part of the war. Back at home in the U.S., televisions, radios, newspapers, and especially Hollywood movies portrayed the war in Vietnam. During the late 60’s to late 80’s, Vietnam movies from Hollywood changed their views of the enemy to the U.S. forces. ....

.... When a dozen of helicopters surrounded a civilian village, the Americans played Mozart while shooting M60s at the innocent people below. After things got a little out of hand, the choppers sent missiles to annihilate the Vietnamese. This violent scene sets a mode of guiltiness and regret. The killing of helpless Vietnamese children and mothers was not what the war was about. This presented a "bad" image of Americans. Seven years later, in 1986, the movie Platoon presented ....
