In 1967 the discovery of diamonds changed the whole economic development in Botswana. Jwaneng is a diamond mine in the south and Kalahari, Orapa, and Letlhakane are mines in the central. These four diamond mines combined revenues have accounted for 77 percent of the total exports and 45 percent of total GDP. The Botswana government owns these mines. Botswana is by far the worlds largest diamond exporter earning over 1,41 billion dollars.
